For many Jazz guitarists, the sound of an archtop connected to a mid-60s era all tube big and heavy amplifier designed by Leo defines THE classic sound for the genre.
Ecouraged by California based Jazz guitarist and educator Bruce Forman, Sound Island Music and Vintage Sound Amps teamed up to reproduce those time tested sonic characteristics...but in an alternate "Jazz" way.
The VS112-JZ is the result of this cooperation: a compact and reasonable weight package which delivers THAT Jazz guitar sound with ample volume, easy to understand EQ controls, great reverb...and a manufacturer's warranty.
By focusing on extending clean headroom and enriching bass response through high efficiency and technically overbuilt electronic components, the VS112-JZ extracts significant sound at usable stage levels from a conservatively rated all tube/valve 22 watt RMS power section.
Though small in size, the VS112-JZ gives the impression of a much larger amplifier...yet one that also handles a guitar's inherent sound musically with an open sound stage, dynamics, definition, note attack, string separation and Leo's organic sparkle. And it's tucked into a comfortably compact sized package that's perfect in all the typical Jazz gigs.
For the technically inclined, the VS112-JZ begins as a single channel Deluxe ReverbŪ placed inside a tall Princeton ReverbŪ cabinet...but it's powered by a pair of muscular 6L6 tubes/valves and adds a Midrange control, Dwell function on reverb, "fat" output and power transformers optimized for maximum clean headroom, and a full sounding efficient Weber California 1x12 speaker reminiscent of the famed JBL D-120.
For the not-so-technically inclined, the bottom line is that this little all tube/valve amp is simply wonderful for all manner of Jazz guitar. Big and full Leo based sound, clean warm-yet-clear, easy to use, terrific reverb with dwell control...and you can comfortably carry it around.
