Luthier John Buscarino turns his building talents to perfecting a dual mode speaker cabinet engineered to complement the gamut of guitar family instruments: the Chameleon 8. Complex in design, the result is actually very simple...a natural aural representation of the instrument itself.
In essence, the Chameleon 8 is a single point reference coaxial speaker built to deliver transparent reproduction of your instrument's sound...but with such precision that it also serves for live PA applications, home audio, and even critical near field monitoring during recording and mixing sessions. The Chameleon by Buscarino is intelligent and sophisticated in design yet broadly flexible in application.
So why the "Chameleon" name? In the full range "acoustic" mode, the Buscarino Chameleon is capable of reaching circa 20kHz frequencies. Perfect for those who need to reproduce their steel or nylon string instruments...but just louder.
For applications where a guitarist might prefer a more traditional "sonic window" with limited high end excursion, a simple touch of the circuit bypass switch in back of the cabinet to the "electric" mode turns the Chameleon into that warm-yet-clear voice of classic electric archtops.
In the electric setting, the Chameleon re-routes to a separate circuit away from the crossover and tweeter. This ensures a direct signal path to the 8" driver allowing it to operate independently and free of "crosstalk." The result of this sophisticated electronic design is sonic accuracy.
Typical of John Buscarino's attention to detail, all components and materials are strictly state-of-the-art|no compromise quality.
For example, the tweeter is a polyester dome design usually found only in high-end studio gear. Engineered into the Chameleon, the tweeter is both mechanically and electronically time aligned to deliver the upper frequencies consistent with the mids and basses from the woofer.
Every crossover is individually tested for accuracy, consistency and compliance to exacting tolerances (inductors are custom wound to within +/- 2%). Why? For one, so that the sound between the woofer and tweeter integrates seamlessly. For two, so that any sets of Buscarino Chameleon speakers are inherently "matched pairs."
More examples. The highly rigid 15-ply Baltic birch material helps ensure a studio spec-flat frequency response from the enclosure without extraneous colorations. The recessed carrying handle is metal and inserted with "T" nuts into the cabinet so that it won't break or fall out. The high-tech finish is seamless so that it won't peel over time. The speaker grille is powder coated metal so it is virtually indistructible while also sonically transparent. The cabinet is built with a gentle 12 degree tilt to help disperse sound.
To further expand the Chameleon's multiple uses, the cabinet incorporates a metal pole mount bracket on the bottom. Need compact PA speakers to project your sound to the audience's ears rather than their ankles? No problem, Chameleon is here: mount two Chameleons on PA stands and you are ready to deliver. Coincidentally, you are also likely to avoid feedback problems.
